Beer Can Repair - FAQ
1) Do you supply donor lids?
It is the customers responsibility to provide the donor can. This is to ensure that you will be happy with how the lid matches the overall condition of the can. The used donor can will not be returned. On occasion we do have a limited supply of lids that are available for a fee. Depending on the style of lid desired, the cost ranges from $5 - $30.
2) What does stretching a can mean?
To stretch a can both the top and bottom lids need to be removed. Under the lid is a flange. This flange can be used to increase the height of the can such that gear marks can be removed yet still preserving the correct height of the can. The outcome of stretching a can are unpredictable as the results rely on the condition of the metal and the paint under the rim.
3) Do you install brand new lids?
We prefer not to as the results are inferior to using a donor can. As we do not carry a supply of these lids, you would have to provide the lid. As this method requires less time the work can be done for a lower price. Typically, we would charge $5 - $10 to install a brand new lid.
4) Do you roll cans?
No. Currently we do not have the equipment to roll cans.
5) Do you work on off-grade cans?
We prefer to work on indoor cans. Well preserved dumpers may be suitable for repair work, however, the results will be less predictable as the metal and lids are not as well preserved,
6) Do you install cone top lids?
No. At this time we do not have the necessary equipment to do this work. We are in the market for any equipment for lidding cones.
7) Do you guarantee your work?
No guarantees are made regarding the quality of the work as the condition of the metal and paint on older cans varies sometimes resulting in unpredictable results. Wworking on cans may result in the following damage:
- When stretching a can the flange may crack thus making it impossible to stretch the can
- When stretching a can the condition of the flange is unknown. Occasionally the paint on the flange is discolored or damaged. This will impact how the newly exposed paint matches with the rest of the can. We will alert the customer if it appears that there will be a significant cosmetic issue.
- Due to circumstances out of our control, paint may crack, chip, or peel during the repair process.
- Lids may crack or become damaged during the removal process making them unusable. In the event this occurs the customer is responsible for finding a suitable donor lid.
Steps are taken to minimize the risk of damage. We will let you know if we foresee a significant chance of damage prior to starting the work. Please read the disclaimer for more details.
8) What is the turn around time for repairing cans?
This depends on the number of cans being repaired . On smaller orders we can typically repair the cans within a couple of weeks.
9) Who is responsible for shipping and insurance?
It is the customer's responsibility to pay for shipping and insurance. Insurance is strongly recommended as we are not responsible for any items lost or damaged in the mail. Cans will be shipped via USPS.
